The 2 ¼” x 50’ thermal receipt paper roll is one of our best sellers and a common thermal credit card machine paper roll size. Thermal paper is a special type of heat-sensitive paper that is manufactured with a specialty coating that allows inkless printing. When heat (from a thermal receipt printer) is applied to the coating, the result is a sharp black image, without the need for ink or ribbons.

What is thermal receipt paper?
Thermal receipt paper is specially coated paper designed for direct thermal printers. Heat from the printer's printhead activates the coating and creates the text, graphics, barcodes, or QR codes on the receipt. Because the image is created with heat, thermal printers do not require ink cartridges, toner, or ribbons.
How do I know which receipt paper my printer needs?
Start with the make and model number of your printer. Check the manufacturer's specifications, look inside the printer compartment for a media label, or compare the dimensions with your existing roll. What size receipt paper do most POS systems use?
One of the most common sizes for full-size POS receipt printers is 3 1/8" wide thermal paper, also commonly referred to as 80mm thermal paper. Smaller payment terminals frequently use 2 1/4" wide thermal paper. Always confirm your printer's specifications before ordering.
How does a thermal receipt printer work?
A thermal printer contains a heated printhead that selectively heats tiny areas of the thermal paper as it passes through the printer. Those heated areas darken to create the printed receipt. This allows thermal printers to print quickly and quietly with relatively few moving parts.
Does thermal receipt paper require ink?
No. Direct thermal receipt printers do not use ink, toner, or printer ribbons. The special coating on thermal paper reacts directly to heat generated by the printhead.
